HARRISONBURG, Va. (June 5, 2026) – Despite the heat, Anna Summers remained cool at the VHSL 1A State Track and Field Championships on Friday, at James Madison University. After fouling her opening throw, the nerves quickly subsided.
“I think she was feeling a little pressure after the initial throw, but once she went over a 100’ for her second throw, she relaxed,” Castlewood track coach Dominique Locke said.
The final discus throw of her career as a Blue Devil was 109’9” which placed her 4th in the State.
“I’m really proud of Anna,” stated Locke. “She’s brought a medal home for Castlewood for four consecutive years.”
Jozy Phillips also completed a final time for the Blue Devils, racing Saturday morning in the 3200m.
“I was fortunate to take these two to JMU this year,” Locke noted. “They are great young women, and I’m so proud of them.
“I want to add I’m thankful for the support (principal) Mr. Jarrod Sparks and (athletic director) Patrick Wade gave us all season. They always made sure we had every opportunity to succeed.”
