
MARY JANE ROBINETTE HESS, age 81, of the River Mountain section of Lebanon, Virginia passed away Saturday (June 13, 2026) at her home. Born September 28, 1944 in the Horton Ridge sec-tion of Swords Creek, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Howard Junior and Gladys Plaster Robinette. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of Ivy Ridge Chapel Church in Cleveland, Virginia. She had formerly been employed by the Russell County School System as a cook and later cafeteria manager, working at Lebanon High, Elementary and Middle Schools for twenty-six years.
On February 2, 1970, she married Corbin Kenneth Hess who preceded her in death on October 15, 2010. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two broth-ers, Howard Robinette and his wife, Joyce, and Ronnie Franklin Robinette; one nephew, James Melvin Hale; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Survivors include one son, Barry Kenneth Hess of the home; one daughter, Sharon Cardwell and husband, Hal of Bristol, Tennessee; three brothers, Edward Robinette and wife, Sharon, John Per-ry Robinette, and Roy Allen Robinette; three sisters, Margaret Ann Robinette, Carolyn Hall and husband, James, and Marie Byrd; two special nieces, Destiny Nightengale and Hannah Meadows; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Legacy Hospice, Adoration Home Health, Marie, Byrd, and Destiny Nightengale for all their loving care and assistance provided during her illness.
Funeral services were conducted at 12 Noon on Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Danny Rhea and Rev. Guy Harris officiating. Interment followed in Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers were Mark Helton, Brad Meadows, Scotty Keen, David Church, Garnett Dye, Grat Dye, Randy Byrd, Noah Byrd, and Matthew Robinette.
Honorary pallbearers were the men of Ivy Ridge Chapel Church, Lance Nightengale, Darrell Hess, and Hal Cardwell.
The family received friends after 5 PM Wednesday at the funeral home, where an evening song service was conducted at 7 PM.
