Russell County honored 250 years of freedom with celebrations in Honaker, Cleveland and Lebanon.
Despite temperatures being almost as hot as the fireworks, each town had large and enthusiastic crowds for their festivities.
Honaker got America’s birthday party started on June 27. Plenty of vendors, the town’s new splash pad, live music and fireworks were all a part of the town’s festivities.
Cleveland took the spotlight on July 3. The town’s annual Independence Day parade, live music, cornhole tournament and fireworks were among the highlights.
Lebanon’s celebration began with the town’s annual parade on the morning of July 4. Judge Don McGlothlin served as grand marshal.
Marching bands from Southern Gap High School and Honaker High School took part in the parade. The parade also featured plenty of emergency response teams from across the county, beauty queens, hot rods, tractors and floats from churches, civic organizations and businesses.
The celebration continued throughout the day and well into the evening on the grounds of Lebanon Middle School. Plenty of vendors, live music, fireworks and a special showing of “American Heritage with David Barton” at the Russell Theatre, sponsored by New Life Fellowship, were all a part of the celebration.
