SHIRLEY ANN GRUNERT, formerly of Lebanon, passed away peacefully at her home in Atmore, AL on July 1 following a nine-year battle with retroperitoneal sarcoma. She was predeceased by her parents, Sephers and Novella Jackson, her brother, Billy Jackson, and her son, Boyd Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Horst-Werner Grunert, her children: Angela Colley (Keith), Karen McRae (Mark), Teri Peterson (Mike), Kacie Campbell (Rodney), Eric Grunert (Mary) and Heidi Grunert, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, July 9, at First Baptist Church, Atmore, AL with interment at Barrancas National Cemetery, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, FL. Shirley was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church while living in Lebanon and greatly enjoyed their fellowship and singing in the choir.
It was there that she helped plant the seeds that would lead her children to lifelong faith in Jesus. She maintained lasting friendships with folks of Russell County and returned many times to visit.
Her children would like to thank everyone for the joy these friends brought into her life, with heartfelt gratitude especially to Kitty Parris, Barbara Walls and Olga Buchanan for 50 years of love, laughter and friendship that they shared with our wonderful, beautiful Mom. She will be deeply missed.
