July 24 was the latest meeting of the Drill Senior Citizens. We gave our potato peelers and fryers the day off, so when we arrived everyone was just sitting and enjoying visiting with each other.
Betty Sue Hess called the meeting to order. She read the prayer requests, then Tommy Meade opened devotions with prayer and Gary Thomas read the 23rd Psalm from his Bible.
After devotions Betty Sue called the roll. We had 31 members present today. No visitors. Welcome to our newest member Phyllis Miller. Glad to have Norman and Linda back with us today.
We then stood and made our Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. I then gave the financial report.
There was very little prep for lunch today, so Tommy Meade sang “Going Over Jordan”. Then Betsy Newton sang “Happy Birthday” to our members who had celebrated a birthday since our last meeting. She then led everyone in singing, “God Bless America” and she ended our singing for this meeting with “As I Have Loved You”.
Our menu today was sandwiches and sides. We decided it was too hot to cook. Betsy Newton asked the blessing over the food today. As always, our tables were full of good food, all kinds of sandwich meats, cheeses, and breads. Lots of good condiments to make your sandwich just to your liking. Plenty of chips and sides to go with your sandwich. The dessert counters were full of good sweets.
After lunch was over and clean up was complete, it was bingo time! Don and Betty Sue had to leave early today so I did the number calling for us to play. I am sorry but I forgot who gave out the cards and brought in the prizes. Thanks to whoever did this. If I don’t write things down anymore, I forget. Anyone else have this problem?
Our winners today were Kathy Noe had her birthday on her card. These members won one game each: Ron Jackson, Shelia Hale, Freda Sweeney, Norman Wilson, Nancy Childress, Linda Wilson, Kathy Noe, and Linda Elder. These lucky winners won three games each: Thelma Massie and Georgia Johnson. Glad to see Georgia back today. We miss our members when they are out. We really had a good time playing bingo, even though it was hard not having Don Hess there to tell me how to call the numbers!
Thank You to Joyce Baldwin for taking notes today. Barbara was sick and couldn’t be with us today.
Our next meeting is scheduled for August 14, beginning at 11 a.m. Our menu will be potluck. Everyone welcome! Come be with us, we will make you smile.
