Southern Gap 3, Honaker 0 (Volleyball)
In their debut on their home floor, Southern Gap rolled to a 3-0 sweep of Honaker in non-district play. Set scores were
Leah Rasnake (11 kills), Madison Lester (seven kills, four aces, two blocks), Addy Boyd (five kills), Adyson Bell (four kills, four aces, 13 assists), Lucy Savage (four kills), and Megan Hess (four kills) powered the frontline. Claire Griffey led the Eagles’ defense with 25 digs.
Ava Keene and Aliyah Hilton totaled seven digs each for the Tigers.
Tuesday (9/1)
Castlewood 3, Tazewell 0 (Volleyball)
The Lady Blue Devils posted a 25-16, 25-17, 25-23 season-opening victory at Tazewell. Senior Layla Ervin led the way with 12 kills and three aces. Freshman Leanna Franklin distributed 24 assists.
Cheyenne Elam (five kills, two aces) and Kadence Culbertson (six kills) also played well for Castlewood.
Friday (9/4)
Ridgeview 41, Honaker 6 (Football)
Ridgeview cruised to a 41-6 non-district victory over visiting Honaker.
Sophomore Kyler McFall returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, sparking the Wolfpack to a convincing win and improving them to 2-0.
Ridgeview capitalized on a blocked punt and two interceptions to build a 41-0 halftime lead.
Alex Grant scored three touchdowns for the Wolfpack.
Cole Morrison scored on an 18-yard TD rush for the Tigers. Malachi Gilbert had 75 rushing yards.
Morrison and Levi Honaker led the defense in the loss.
Phelps (Ky.) 44, Castlewood 0 (Football)
Castlewood fell to 0-2 with a loss to the Hornets. No other details were available at press time.
