A death at one of Southwest Virginia’s three regional jails is under investigation.
According to Matthew Demlein, Public Relations Coordinator for the Virginia State Police, the death occurred at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon on Friday, Sept. 18, 2026.
“Foul play is not suspected at this time,” Demlein said.
He added that the death is being investigated by Virginia State Police.
The name of the deceased was not released by authorities. No further information is available at this time, Demlein stated.
