Are you an adult looking to get back into the job market, or do you need extra skills to help you progress in the job you already have?
If so, then Southwest Regional Adult Education (SRAE) offers an online program called Work Essentials that helps you build your employability skills, so that you can find a job or help keep the one you already have. Work Essentials is an online, self-paced course designed to help adults build the skills needed to enter the workforce and advance their career goals.
Using built-in assessments, the learning system creates a learning plan for each student within three comprehensive units.
The first unit is called Job Seeking. This unit is uniquely designed to help adult students learn the essential skills needed for a job search that will help them find work. Many people don’t know where to begin when it comes to finding work.
With this Job Seeking module, individuals can focus on becoming successful in today’s work environment. In this course section, one can learn how to: find jobs online, apply for jobs, write resumes and cover letters, make a good impression, and meet employer expectations.
The second unit is called Job Seeking. This unit has created lessons to prepare adults with the high demand work habits employers are looking for in new hires. Starting a new position comes with its own learning curve that can offset the confidence one may have after accepting a job offer.
The Job Ready module explains the skills needed to adapt to working environments in their new roles and improve their career opportunities. This unit provides learners with information on how to: communicate well, meet employer expectations for the job, show initiative and dependability, create a positive customer experience, and represent themselves in a positive manner.
The last unit is called Job Keeping. This unit is specifically structured to advise adults who may need a bit of extra support to advance in their careers. The Job Keeping module promotes the importance of building specific skills for long-term success to advance in the workplace with a promotion or higher-paying position.
Within this module, adults can gain help with the following skills: thinking critically and problem solving, working well with others, and building relationships, working work-related problems, negotiating to solve conflict, and keeping accurate records.
