A man wanted for attempted second-degree murder was arrest on June 25 in Russell County.

According to Sheriff Bill Watson, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office contacted local authorities to be on the lookout for the suspect, who was identified as Isaiah Jospeh Campbell, 29.

Sullivan County officials allege that Campbell fired a gun at a family member during an argument. He then fled the scene, which was reportedly in the Orebank section of Kingsport, and made his way to Russell County.

Campbell was taken into custody by local authorities in the Lebanon area without incident.

He is currently being held in the Southwest Virgina Regional Jail in Abingdon awaiting extradition. In addition to attempted second-degree murder, he is also charged with aggravated assault, two counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and a weapons violation.

June 24 was a busy day for the Russell County Sheriff’s Office.

On that date, authorities received a report of a male subject brandishing a firearm at vehicles in the Carterton Area.

“Due to prompt information from the community to our dispatchers and swift relay of information to our deputies, the male suspect was apprehended without incident,” Watson said.

The name of the suspect was not released.

Also on June 24, one person was arrested following a brief pursuit in Lebanon involving officers with the Russell County Sheriff’s Office and Lebanon Police Department.

Watson said officers attempted to pull over a vehicle when the driver allegedly showed signs of being under the influence.

“When the driver opted not to stop, a short pursuit followed,” Watson said. “The suspect attempted to strike officers with his vehicle during the chase. The vehicle was subsequently stopped, and officers successfully apprehended the male driver after directing him to exit the vehicle.

The name of the suspect was not released by police.

In Swords Creek on June 24, officers joined forces with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to arrest two individuals.

The suspects, an unidentified male and female, allegedly barricaded themselves inside a residence and issued threats to authorities. Following a brief standoff, the suspects gave themselves up and were taken into custody without further incident.

Two people were arrested on June 22 following the alleged breaking and entering. Firearms and other items were reportedly taken from the residence, Watson said.

The vehicle the suspects were traveling in was located in the Poor Farm area. The passenger fled but was soon captured. The driver of the vehicle was also taken into custody.

The names of the suspects were not released.

“We appreciate the assistance provided, especially the swift response from our deputies and investigations unit that led to the apprehension of both the passenger and driver,” Watson stated.
