A brief ceremony was held on July 1 to unveil the 250 Years of US mural in Lebanon.
The vinyl mural features the Bart Long and Associates Reality and Auction Clydesdales that have traditionally led the town’s Christmas parade. The mural also features an eagle soaring high, an American flag, the Town of Lebanon’s seal and the phrase “250 Years of Us.”
The mural is located on the corner of West Main Street and Church Street.
Alan Tuhacek was the artist behind the mural. Tuhacek is a student at Southwest Virginia Community College School of the Arts.
“I am really grateful for the opportunity,” Tuhacek said. “I had a good time working on this.”
Tuhacek’s instructor, Morgan Wallace Gilbert, said, “It is really cool that the town does these kinds of things. It not only brightens the town, it gives opportunities to artists.”
Gilbert added, “It shows our culture, our history and who we are.”
The mural also pays homage to one of Lebanon’s favorite sons. “You might even recognize somebody driving the horses,” Gilbert said.
That somebody is former longtime member of the Lebanon Town Council, Doyle Fields. Field passed away in 2023.
