July 10 was a cloudy, humid morning, but it was cool inside the Drill Community Building as we gathered together again for another meeting of the Drill Senior Citizens.
Betty Sue Hess called the meeting to order. She read the prayer requests, then Tommy Meade opened devotions with prayer and Gary Thomas read from Proverbs chapter three, verses 1-13. We need to read our Bible and study God’s word each day to grow closer to him.
After devotions Betty Sue called the roll. We had 28 members and three visitors present today. We missed Rev. Chester Ball and Becky today. We had several members out today; hope you were not sick.
We then stood and made our Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. I then gave the financial report. We talked about the law that was passed making styrofoam containers illegal and just wondering if the stores would stop selling it. Time will tell but we voted to stock up on paper supplies.
Our singers today were Joyce Baldwin, Janet Combs, Betsy Newton and Tommy Meade. They Sang; “Beautiful”, “It’s Me Again Lord”, “Beulah land”, “Thank You For The Roses”, and Betsy led everyone in singing “God Bless America” and “Happy Birthday” to our July birthday members.
Our menu today was potluck. Betsy Newton asked the blessing over the food today. As always, our tables were full of good food, the electric skillets were full of fried potatoes and they were all eaten. The dessert counters were full of plenty of sweets to end the meal just right. As always Bruce and Barbara had the cooler full of cold drinks.
After lunch was over and clean up was complete, it was bingo time! John Combs gave out the bingo cards and Gary Thomas brought in the bingo prizes. Betty Sue started the fun by calling the numbers for first few games then I finished up so she could play her card. Our winners today were: winning one game each: Jeanine Israel, Nancy Tiller, Bruce Baldwin, Betty Sue Hess, David Compton, Ron Jackson, Freda Sweeney, Don Hess, Lucy Blankenship, John Combs and Judy Rowe. These lucky people won two games each: Linda Baldwin, Gary Thomas, and Sandy Miller. Our big winner today was Betsy Newton she won three games. Also Janet Combs had her birthday on her card.
Our next meeting is scheduled for July 24 beginning at 11 a.m. Our menu will be sandwiches and sides. Everyone welcome! Come be with us, we will make you smile.
