Students across Russell County will return to class on August 7 for the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year.
A number of events are scheduled to welcome students back and to help them prepare for the new year.
The National Night Out will be held on August 4 at the Lebanon Town Park from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
According to information provided by the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, “The National Night Out event is a nationwide event, dedicated to uniting communities and first responders in promoting neighborhood safety and strengthening relationships between community members and local law enforcement, fire departments, emergency personnel, and local agencies.”
The event, which is free of charge, allows local businesses and agencies to provide essential resources and services before the start of the new school year. All local businesses, churches, and agencies are encouraged to participate by donating or packing backpacks with school supplies for those in need.
Acts of Grace will provide a complimentary meal consisting of hotdogs, chips, and a drink.
The Town of Lebanon Parks and Recreation Department will also open the pool free of charge for families. By attending, community members can gain insight into local resources and services.
Additionally, free haircuts will be given to students in the Lebanon Community Room from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Lebanon Primary School students will meet their teachers on August 5 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. as part of the Meet the Teacher and Food Truck Block Party. Numerous food trucks will be on hand to welcome students back to school.
Lebanon Elementary School will be providing all basic school supplies to students. Parents will be asked only to provide lunch boxes and backpacks.
Second grade orientation at LES will be July 30 from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Third graders may meet their teachers on July 30 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Fourth grade students may meet their teachers on July 31 from 9:00 a.m. until noon.
According to a statement from Lebanon Middle School, the only supplies parents will need for fifth graders will be lunch boxes and backpacks.
“School supplies for the entire fifth grade class will be provided thanks to some generous donors in the community,” the statement read. “Backpacks and lunchboxes are the only things left to get.”
Sixth and seventh graders at Lebanon Middle School will get their schedules on July 30. Sixth graders may do so at 10:00 a.m., with seventh graders at 1:00 p.m. Fifth grade orientation will be July 31 at 10:00 a.m.
Eighth grade orientation at Lebanon High School will be on August 5 at 12:30 p.m.
Schedules, lockers and parking spaces will be assigned to seniors and juniors on July 30. Seniors will receive their information from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Juniors will receive their assignments from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Sophomores will receive their schedules and lockers on July 31 from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Freshmen are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Honaker Elementary/Middle School will host Chalk the Walk on August 6. Students are encouraged to “start the year with kindness, creativity and color” as they decorate the walkway.
The event will get underway at 6:00 p.m.
Honaker High School’s eighth grade orientation is scheduled for August 4 at 9:00 a.m.
Schedule pick up for 9-12 graders at HHS will also be on August 4 from 10:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
All basic school supplies, other than lunchboxes and backpacks, will be provided for students at Castlewood Elementary School.
Pre-K3 through third grade students at CES will meet their teachers on July 31 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Students in grades 4-7 will meet their teachers on August 3 from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
New student and eighth grade orientation for Castlewood High School will be August 4 from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
9th-12th Grade Back-to-School Night is scheduled for August 5. That event is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. and conclude at 6:30 p.m.
