August 28 found the door to the Drill Community Building open as we prepared for another meeting of the Drill Senior Citizens. It was good to see Don and Betty Sue Hess back with us today. We miss you when you are not here. The potato peelers soon got busy getting the potatoes ready for frying.
Betty Sue called our meeting to order. She read the prayer requests and Rev. Chester Ball opened our devotions with prayer, then Gary Thomas read the 47th Psalm. This psalm celebrates God as King over the Earth. He will provide a home in Heaven for all his people.
After devotions Betty Sue called the roll. We had 31 members present today and one visitor. We missed our members who were absent today.
We then stood and made our Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag. I then gave the financial report. We decided to do a fall tote next time to celebrate Labor Day.
Our singers today were Janet Combs, Joyce Baldwin, Betsy Newton and Tommy Meade. Janet, Joyce and Tommy sang: “God’s Coloring Book”, “A Change In Me’,and “Stroll Over Heaven With You”. Then Betsy led everyone in singing “Happy Birthday” to any members having a birthday and “God Bless America”, she finished with “As I Have Loved You”.
Our menu today was potluck. Betsy Newton asked the blessing over the food. The tables were full of good country cooking. The dessert counters had plenty of sweets to end the meal just right. Bruce had the cooler full of cold drinks.
After lunch was over and clean up was complete, it was bingo time! Nancy Tiller gave out the bingo cards and John Combs brought in the bingo prizes. Then the fun began!
Our winners today were: Greg Noe had his birthday on his card and Betty Sue had the date on hers. Winning one game each: Judy Rowe, Freda Sweeney, Thelma Massie, Betsy Newton, Joyce Baldwin, me, and Linda Baldwin. Winning two games each: Nola White, Chester Ball, Don Hess, Brenda Jackson, David Compton, Kathy Noe and Shelia Hale. Our big winner today winning three games was John Combs.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 11, beginning at 11 a.m. Our menu will be finger foods. Everyone welcome!
Remember to pray for one another. When prayers go up, blessings come down!
