September 11th was the latest meeting of the Drill Senior Citizens. The Community Building soon filled with laughter and the smell of fresh brewed coffee. We did something different for lunch today, so we gave our potato peelers and fryers the day off.
Betty Sue called our meeting to order. She read the prayer requests and Rev. Chester Ball opened our devotions with prayer, then Gary Thomas read Psalm 30.
God has mercy on us each day. He can heal us from any sickness. We need to give him thanks each day and praise him always.
Chester and Gary divide up the devotions as both of them are short of breath. Love the way we all work together as a team.
After devotions Betty Sue called the roll. We had 33 members present today and three visitors. Glad to have Norman and Linda Wilson back with us today. Miss you when you are not here.
We then stood and made our Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. I then gave the financial report. We talked about different menu ideas and the upcoming season’s change. We did our end of Summer, Welcome Fall Tote Raffle today. Many nice things in the tote. Phyllis Miller was the winner of the tote.
Our singers today were Janet Combs, Joyce Baldwin, Linda Wilson and Tommy Meade. They sang “Beautiful”, “Thank You For The Roses”, “More To Go To Heaven For”, and “That Old Time Religion”. Betsy Newton was not able to be with us today.
Our menu today was finger foods. We decided to try something different. The tables were full of good food. Tommy Meade asked the blessing over the food. The dessert counters were full of goodies to end the meal on a sweet note and Bruce had the cooler full of cold drinks.
Everyone that we asked seemed to like the change in menu. Have to keep it interesting, life gets boring if you do the same thing all the time.
After lunch was over and clean up was complete, it was bingo time! Nancy Tiller gave out the bingo cards and Gary Thomas and Frank Dye brought in the bingo prizes. Betty Sue started the fun by calling the numbers for the first several games, then I took over so she could play her card.
Our winners today were: winning one game each: Freda Sweeney, Myrtle Dye, Joyce Baldwin, Thelma Massie, Shelia Hale, Gary Thomas, and I won one. Winning two games each: Greg and Barbara Matney, Frank Dye, Ron Jackson, Becky Ball, and David Compton.
Our next meeting is scheduled for September 25th, beginning at 11 a.m. Our menu will be potluck. Everyone welcome!
