One of the region’s fastest growing events, VetFest SWVA, will be held this Saturday in Lebanon.
VetFest raises funds for Stop Soldier Suicide while drawing attention to the struggles military veterans face upon returning home. The event also has information about various services for struggling veterans.
In addition, VetFest offers a day of fun activities for the entire family.
Among the highlights of the day will be the Austin Daugherty Memorial 5K-12K at 10:30 a.m. Making up this event are the 5K Walk, 5K Run, and 12K Ruck.
Multiple age groups and divisions are offered for the 5K-12K. State of Franklin Track Club will be providing computer timing services.
Early registration is available online and will include an event t-shirt. Participants may also register the day of VetFest and will receive a shirt as long as supplies last. Registration is $25.
The 2026 VetFest will have a new competition in honor of one of the Russell County Sheriff’s Office’s most feared officers – K9 Art. The beloved Art passed away earlier this year.
“For four years we have had K9 demonstrations, this year we want to take it up a notch and offer a K9 Competition,” said event organizer Doro Martin.
The competition is open for working dogs, sport dogs, protection dogs and others. Categories will include fastest dog, hardest hitting dog and agility.
VetFest will be held in the memory of Austin Daughtry.
“We keep fighting for people like Austin to learn they are not alone, they are enough and they can make it tomorrow,” said Martin. “We are here, we provide resources and as much help as we can. And so can you. Make that phone call, send that message or knock on that door.”
