Scott McGlothlin is seeking another term on the Honaker Town Council.
“I grew up in the Tunnel Hill section of Honaker,” McGlothlin said when discussing his background. “I went to work in the coal mines in 1984. I married my wife, Alicia Snead, in 1990 and we had a daughter, Ashlee, in 1992. I worked in the mines for 31 years and now I am retired and have been blessed with two grandchildren and been blessed to keep both of them since they were born.”
When asked about the accomplishments he is most proud of during his time on the council, McGlothlin said keeping water bills low, the creation of the Honaker Town Park and Splash Pad. He said he is also working to bring a grocery store to the town.
“Most of all,” he added, “doing something for the kids – the Honaker Kids Fishing Day.”
Each spring, McGlothlin and volunteers stock Lewis Creek with fish and hundreds of children from the town and across the region enjoy a day of fishing.
If reelected, McGlothlin said he will make it a priority to, “…do something about homes that are run down. Or junked up properties.”
Other areas that have been and will continue to be addressed, according to McGlothlin, include updates to water lines, a water tank project, sidewalk upgrades and updating some of the town’s ordinances.
Economic development and supporting established businesses were issues also mentioned by McGlothlin.
“We need to support and promote our local businesses,” he said. “Keep revitalizing and updating our town and look for grant funding to improve on what we have started.”
Joining McGlothlin on the November ballot are fellow incumbents Benny Chafin and Nancy Taylor, as well as challengers Cathy Ray and Jennifer Short.
The Lebanon News reached out to each candidate, however only McGlothlin, Ray and Taylor responded.
