Incumbent Jodi Eaton is among three candidates seeking the office of Mayor of Honaker.
Eaton said of her background, “I’ve been married to David Eaton going on 35 years. We have three sons and three grandsons, with a granddaughter on the way. I’ve served one term as Mayor of Honaker and would like to continue the progress I’ve started if reelected.”
First elected four years ago, Eaton pointed to the securing of grants for town projects and the creation of events that draw people to the town among her accomplishments.
“I’m thankful we have received grant funding for the park and other grants to help with our town,” Eaton said. “It was much needed for the children and families in our community.
Eaton said she was also proud of one of the events held at the park each year, The Route 80 Festival. The event is free of charge to audiences and it brings nationally known bluegrass artists to Honaker.
“We’re getting ready to start working on the sidewalks in town,” she added. “We are working on a second downtown revitalization project and Rails to Trails project and a farmer’s market.”
Eaton said, “I’m trying to offer more to our citizens and grow our town.”
Among the issues facing Honaker, Eaton cited providing a better quality of life to residents by keeping the cost of living affordable. She also mentioned, “Attracting outside people coming into our town to enjoy our festivities – Redbud Festival, Route 80 Festival, and the Honaker Gospel Jubilee.”
If reelected, Eaton said she will focus on continuing to apply for grants for the town’s park phase two enhancement.
“I will continue to improve our sidewalks and roads,” she added.
In the area of economic growth, Eaton said she will work “with local property owners and stakeholders to improve properties to attract more businesses into the town.”
She said she will also work “with the new housing project opening in Russell County, to build new housing on blighted properties.”
Eaton is being challenged by Ernest Short and Tommy Testerman. The Lebanon News reached out to both challengers but did not receive a reply.
