Support Group for Female Survivors of Sexual Assault
Women survivors of sexual assault are invited to attend regular support group meetings or individual support if you prefer. Survivors meet in a safe environment with other women who have had similar experiences. Clinch Valley Community Action, Inc. Family Crisis Services knows and understands what a survivor is going through. The fact that you are alive and reading this means that you are in-credibly strong, courageous and intelligent. We are here to aid in the recovery process with individu-al support sessions. Please call and let us help. We are a confidential service. For information, call Ranetta Davis (276) 889-8206 or Haley Slade at (276) 988-5583.

Counts Family Reunion
Descendants of John & Mary Counts, early 1789 settlers of Russell County’s Glade Hollow, will gather for the 85th Counts Family Reunion on Saturday, August 1, 2026, beginning at 10 a.m., at Dickenson County’s Breaks Interstate Park indoor meeting rooms, located between Haysi VA and Elkhorn City, Kentucky.
Begun in 1936, by Counts kin, historian and former Dickenson County, VA attorney and Judge, Eli-hu Jasper Sutherland, the reunion embraces this Southwest Virginian family whose early origins have been documented as early as 1749 in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia by family historian, Dr. Brett Compton, of Bristol VA, and includes such notables as musician, Ralph Stanley, and one of the first settlers in the Dickenson County area, Richard Colley and wife Christina Counts, a granddaugh-ter of John & Mary Counts.
Following presentations and a light luncheon, a group tour of the historic Counts Cabin which was taken from the Lick Creek area of Dickenson County and relocated to the Breaks Interstate Park near the Visitor Center, is planned. It is thought by researcher, William “Billy” Brice Counts, to have been the former hunting cabin of Joshua Counts, a grandson of John and Mary Counts, and dates back to some years before Joshua’s death in 1883. Plans are underway to begin the nomination process for the cabin’s inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.
