Members of Lebanon High School’s state baseball championship team where honored last week by the Lebanon Town Council.
“We have a very special group of young men and coaches with us here tonight,” stated Mayor Tony Dodi. “They’ve been on a burn the last five years.”
Dodi, on behalf of the council, presented players and coaches with plaques honoring their district, region and state championships.
Cody Compton was also honored for being named the Virginia High School League Class 2 Coach of the Year.
Michael Reece was honored for being named to the VHSL Class 2A all state football and basketball team.
In other action from the July 13 meeting, Russell County Industrial Development Chairman Ron Blankenship introduced Laura Gilmer as the new Executive Director of the IDA.
Blankship said Gilmer is replacing longtime IDA Executive Director Ernie McFadden.
“I’m excited to help economic growth in the county and Lebanon,” Gilmer said.
Lebanon Town Manager Drew Shortt said the first order of Hometown Hero Banners that honored the area’s military veterans arrived on July 2. Town officials were able to have the banners on display for the Independence Day celebration.
Shortt said the next order of banners recently arrived and are being hung up throughout town.
The banners will remain on display at least until the September 11 anniversary. The banners will again be on display in time for Veterans Day in November.
The town is still accepting orders for banners. Anyone wishing to purchase a banner may do so by contacting the Lebanon Town Hall.
