Lebanon High School was honored by the Russell County School Board last week for winning the Nation Guard Cup.
Superintendent Dr. Kim Hooker said LHS Principal Ryan Potts recently received a letter from the Virginia High School League regarding the National Guard Cup.
The 36 year program honors schools for year-long success in academic competition.
The letter stated, “On behalf of the Virginia High School League, we want to congratulate you, your faculty, your staff and students on winning the National Guard Cup.”
The letter added, “Having won the cup speaks well of the quality of programs in place at your school. Lebanon can take pride upon being recognized as the Class 2 school with the best overall performance in the VHSL state level academic programs: debate, drama, forensics, creative writing, student publications, scholastic bowl, e-sports, robotics, and film.”
The Russell County School Board also honored the 2025-2026 valedictorians from the county’s three high schools.
They included Anna Frances Rose Summers from Castlewood High School, Conner Gavin Musick of Honaker High School and Lebanon High School’s Michael Landon Owens.
The Teacher of the Month was Jon Boyd of Lebanon High School.
Lana Wright, of Lebanon Primary School, was the Employee of the Month.
