Virginia’s official comprehensive report on local and statewide crime figures for 2025 has been released.
Titled Crime in Virginia, the report provides precise rates and occurrences of crimes committed in towns, cities and counties across the Commonwealth.
In the category of Property Crimes, the Lebanon Police Department reported four cases of burglary, 58 cases of larceny, 12 cases of fraud, and two motor vehicle thefts.
Lebanon saw one case each of animal cruelty and pornography/obscene materials. Three weapons charges were reported. According to the report, there were 25 drug cases.
In the area of violent crime, Lebanon reported two instances of aggravated assault, and two cases of rape.
Overall, the number of cases in several categories saw a decrease from 2024 to 2025. Larceny was down in Lebanon by just under 39 percent, vehicle theft was down 33 percent and weapons charges decreased by 70 percent.
Rape saw an increase as there was one case reported in 2024. Fraud cases doubled from six to 12. Burglary rose from two to four cases.
The other categories saw no change.
Across the county there were 22 cases of burglary reported. That was a decrease of just over 15 percent. There were 100 cases of larceny reported, which is a decrease of just under 10 percent from last year.
Fraud saw an increase of 52 percent, as a total of 76 cases were reported. The vast majority of those cases involved false pretenses/swindle/confidence game.
There was no change in the number of motor vehicle thefts from 2024, as the Russell County Sheriff’s Office reported 19 cases of this crime.
Rape cases decreased by 50 percent, as eight crimes were reported in 2025.
Aggravated assault cases also saw a decrease. A total of 38 cases were reported, which was a decrease of just under 30 percent.
Two robbery cases were reported in 2025. Zero cases were reported in 2024.
Drug offenses increased across the county by 4.71 percent. A total of 89 cases were reported in 2025.
Pornography cases increased by a rate of 38 percent, as a total of 47 crimes were reported.
Weapons law violations decreased by 20 percent, as a total of 24 crimes were recorded.
The rate of animal cruelty remained unchanged with four cases recorded.
