Food City presents Feeding Southwest Virginia with a $30,000 grant to support the Food Bank’s Mobile Marketplace, a program that brings fresh, convenient and affordable groceries directly to rural communities across Southwest Virginia.
The Mobile Marketplace offers sources of reduced-cost pantry staples and shelf-stable grocery items to communities where access to a traditional grocery store may be limited. The program visits sites in Tazewell, Rocky Gap, Clinchco, New Castle, Wytheville, Glade Spring, Council, Honaker, Galax, Cana, Abingdon, Saltville, Newport, and Blacksburg monthly.
Customers may pay with credit, debit, or SNAP/EBT. As a Virginia Fresh Match outlet, the program provides SNAP customers with 50% fresh produce purchases.
“Food City’s generous investment strengthens our ability to meet neighbors where they are,” says Pamela Irvine, President and CEO of Feeding Southwest Virginia. She continues, “This support will help the Mobile Marketplace continue providing reliable access to nutritious, affordable food for families in rural communities across our region.”
“Food City is proud to support Feeding Southwest Virginia and its Mobile Marketplace Program,” says Misty Deskins, Senior Director of Marketing for Food City. “By working together, we can help connect more of our neighbors with fresh, wholesome food close to home.”
